About Myself

I am a fourth year clinical medicine student at Oriel College, Oxford, having graduated in July 2015 with a First in Medical Sciences. As part of my degree I was awarded the Association of Physicians Research Prize for my work on the Oxford Unicompartmental Knee Replacement. I previously studied at Eton College, where I achieved 11A*s at GCSE, 4As at AS level, and A*s in Biology and Religious Studies and an A in Chemistry at A level.

Tutoring Approach

To get the best from students I allow them to choose their own goals and schedule, organising tutorial sessions to suit the student's timetable. Tutorials are supplemented by tailored work assignments, which are given detailed feedback and discussed in the subsequent tutorial. Within a tutorial students are encouraged to ask questions and raise any concerns they might have about the subject matter and I find that students benefit more from a detailed discussion of a topic, rather than simply listening to an explanation.

Teaching Experience

I have tutored in a range of science and humanities subjects at GCSE level, and in Biology and Chemistry at AS and A level. I have a wealth of experience in both coursework feedback and exam preparation in A level Biology, having taken students from the very beginning of a syllabus right through to achieving 100% UMS in that paper. I have tutored numerous students applying to medical school, giving detailed advice and feedback on personal statements, preparing them for UKCAT and BMAT exams, as well as practising entrance interviews for a range of UK medical schools, and Oxbridge interviews in other subjects.

Extracurricular Interests

Outside of academic study I spend my time playing a number of sports. I regularly compete in triathlons, and have also rowed, played rugby and water polo from college to national level. I was part of the winning Oxford University team in the Under 21 Varsity Rugby Match at Twickenham in December 2014.

3 University offers for Medicine

Louis has helped me all throughout my university application for Medicine, starting from personal statement, BMAT to interview preparation. My university application process has now come to an end with three offers from universities to study Medicine and I must say, without his help I would not have been able to achieve what I have achieved. Throughout our lessons, Louis would always identify my needs first then adjust his teaching with direction based on his own experience. His teaching style was very student focused and I appreciated that greatly. Louis also showed great dedication by being very approachable and responsive when it came to answering my questions. Finally, Louis did not only give me guidance through my application process but also helped me understand Medicine better as a subject furthermore as my future career. He was an absolutely great tutor and I would definitely recommend him to students who want to study Medicine in university.

Louis was an amazing help to me when writing my personal statement. He is very responsive and easy to communicate with. The way he answered questions in simple but effective language so that I could understand in my opinion is what makes Louis a great tutor. He provided me with great tutoring and I strongly recommend anyone looking for any UCAS related help or any subject related help to contact him.

A*AA

Louis taught me A2 level biology in Summer 2014. Despite having been absent from school for two terms I managed to get an A in Biology in the end, and even got full marks on my second paper (Control, genomes and environment)! Louis was an excellent tutor - effectively acting as a teacher in my case too. He was very patient, but to me his strongest point is that instead of delivering points directly he taught me effective methods on how I could teach myself, so his tutoring had an effect on my self-study and revision as well. Thanks to Louis not only did my knowledge in biology extend beyond the syllabus, but my general skills for working improved too, which helped with my other subjects. Louis is a great tutor and I would strongly recommend him to tutor A level biology or students applying for medical related degrees due to his strong understanding and experience in this field.

Louis had been very helpful to me when i was struggling to find a correct route to go about doing medicine for a degree.
He had given me a lot of sources and reading materials which would increase my chances of getting a placement for the universities.
Also, in a skype session he had suggested different routes and ideal routes that i could take in order to achieve my goal which i found very very helpful in choosing what i wanted to do.
He was very responsive when we were emailing, putting in a lot of detail and effort to each answer he had given me for my queries.

Thank you louis.
